Sylvia Joyce Roberts

Sylvia Joyce (Lech) Roberts was born March 15, 1944 in near Elyria, Nebraska to John and Gertrude (Shotkoski) Lech. Sylvia grew up and attended grade school in Elyria, and graduated from Ord High School in 1962. After high school, Sylvia earned her degree as a Registered Nurse from the Saint Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1965. Sylvia married Darrell Roberts on May 29, 1967at the courthouse in Seward, Nebraska, and to this union, four children were born; Rick, Mike, Bill and Lisa. The family made their home in Minneapolis, MN, Cincinnati, OH, and Omaha, NE, before settling in Elkhorn in 1977. Sylvia was honored to work as a registered nurse. She worked in South Saint Paul, MN, Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, and for the past several years at Methodist Hospital in Omaha. She was a Husker football fan, whose favorite color was red. Sylvia enjoyed romantic comedy movies, and liked to dine out at Cilantro’s, drink a cold Bud Light, or stop by Dairy Queen for a chocolate dipped cone. She was known as the leader of the group, and often arranged various get-togethers. She could be a little ornery, but was also able to lighten the mood. She was a lifetime member of “AARPs” (Available Adults Ready to Party). Sylvia will be remembered as a nurse, leader, organizer, grandmother, and as an all-around fun person. She loved her family, and cherished the births of her children and grandchildren, and later their weddings and graduations. She was everyone’s friend, and was always willing to help solve any problem right now. Sylvia died on Monday, May, 23, 2016 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 8 days. She was preceded in death by her parents John & Gertrude Lech, brother Florian, and father-in-law Archie Roberts. Sylvia is survived by her husband Darrell of Elkhorn, children; Rick (Andrea) , Mike (Josie) both of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Bill (Tricia) of Dunlap, IA, and Lisa of Elkhorn, grandchildren; Riley, Conlan, Laney, Ava, Clay, Kylie, Emma, and Cooper, siblings; Roman (Mary) Lech, Everett (Pat) Lech, Lillian (Dennis) Maciejewski, Leonard Lech, Roland (Eileen) Lech, and Marvin (Nancy) Lech, several nieces and nephews. Sylvia J. Roberts, age 72, of Elkhorn, died 5/23/16. Preceded in death by parents John & Gertrude Lech, and brother Florian. Survived by husband Darrell of Elkhorn, children; Rick (Andrea) , Mike (Josie) both Lake Havasu City, AZ, Bill (Tricia) of Dunlap, IA, and Lisa of Elkhorn, grandchildren; Riley, Conlan, Laney, Ava, Clay, Kylie, Emma, and Cooper, siblings; Roman (Mary) Lech, Everett (Pat) Lech, Lillian (Dennis) Maciejewski, Leonard Lech, Roland (Eileen) Lech, and Marvin (Nancy) Lech, several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 10:30 AM Tuesday at the funeral home in Elkhorn. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Elkhorn. Visitation Monday 4-7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials to the Boyer Valley, IA Booster Club or Lake Havasu City, AZ Humane Society.
