Memorials to Prairie View Cemetery or Your Team Foundation Thomas Marvin Dierks was born on September 18, 1951 in Omaha, Nebraska to Marvin and LaFern (Nelson) Dierks. He grew up on the family farm north of Bennington, Nebraska and he attended Bennington grade school and graduated from Bennington High School in 1969. As a young boy, much of his time was spent helping on the family farm and spent his free time fishing with his grandfather. Tom was a good athlete, playing football and was runner-up in the state wrestling tournament in the 180 pound weight class. Tom married Mary Hanisch on September 6, 1997 in Council Bluffs, Iowa at Bayless Park. Tom had lived in Bennington and Elk City before settling in Crescent, Iowa with Mary. Tom was a life-long truck driver, beginning with Rollie Sass and finishing with a 28 year career with Wynne Transport. He enjoyed camping and traveling with Mary. Vacations were often a random drive until they found the perfect spot to camp and relax. Tom was fun-loving, hard-working man with great sense of humor, distinctive laugh and a memorable smile. He was strong and easygoing. Tom enjoyed relaxing at home and entertaining family and friends with his grilled and smoked treats. He savored a good meal of steak and potatoes and a cold PBR. Tom passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at his home in Crescent, Iowa with his family by his side at the age of 66 years, 6 months and 7 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and LaFern, brother Rick and sister-in-law Nancy and beloved dog, Butch. Tom is survived by his wife Mary; daughters Angela (Tyler) Schmidt of Arlington, NE, Wendy (Andrew) White of Elkhorn, NE and Kathleen (Jason) Dworak of Omaha; sons Jon (Kerry) of Ashland, NE and Adam (Lindy) of Shawnee, KS;; 13 grandchildren; brother Doug of Kennard, NE.
