Virginia Marie Jensen

Virginia Marie (Otte) Jensen was born April 7, 1934 in Omaha, Nebraska to Russell and Alice (McArdle) Otte. Virginia lived in Los Angeles, California until moving to Elkhorn, Nebraska at the age of 9 to live with her grandparents. She graduated from Valley High School in 1951. Right after her high school graduation, Virginia married Loyd Jensen on Friday, June 13, 1951 at their minister’s home in Omaha. To this union, three daughters were born: Linda, Kim, and Marla. The family made their home in Waterloo, Nebraska, except for two years living in Georgia while Loyd was in the military. Virginia worked for 6 months at Boys Town, then as a secretary at the Waterloo Public School, and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Valley, Nebraska. She enjoyed crafts, woodworking, sewing, and watching the birds, but her greatest passion was for her flowers and her garden. She was a compassionate, warm, and strong woman, who never got mad at anyone. Virginia was proud of her life with Loyd, and her daughters they raised. She was a gentle person, who loved her home, and will be remembered for her personality, and her dry wit. Virginia passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 79 years and 26 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter Marla. Virginia is survived by her husband Loyd, daughters: Linda Christensen of Lincoln, and Kim Jensen of Waterloo, NE, grandchildren: Lauren, Cocoa, and Jarrad, sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Marvin Petersen of Fremont, and half-sisters: Patricia Whiteaker and Kathy Sarada. Virginia M. Jensen, age 79, of Waterloo, NE, died 5/3/13. Preceded in death by daughter Marla. Survived by husband Loyd, daughters: Linda Christensen of Lincoln, and Kim Jensen of Waterloo, NE, grandchildren: Lauren, Cocoa, and Jarrad, sister: Joyce (Marvin) Petersen of Fremont, half-sisters: Patricia Whiteaker and Kathy Sarada. Funeral service 10:30 AM Tuesday, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Valley. Interment Prospect Hill Cemetery, Elkhorn. Visitation Monday, 5-8 PM at the funeral home in Elkhorn. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Nebraska Humane Society.
