William Hartman

William “Bill” Hartman, Jr. was born August 10, 1935, in Omaha, Nebraska to William and Mary (Wiater) Hartman. Bill grew up in South Omaha where he attended District 43 school, and graduated from Omaha South High School in 1953. As a young boy, Bill enjoyed bowling and riding his motorcycle. Bill was married to Barbara Stageman for 26 years, and they were blessed with four sons: Keith, Kurt, Kevin and Kyle. Bill spent the last 12 years devoted to his special friend, Rose Pike. Bill has made his home near Waterloo, Nebraska for several years, and worked for Ruser Feed Yard, of Venice, Nebraska, starting when he was just 14 years old. He was with Ruser for 56 years, retiring as Foreman of the Yard. Bill then worked for 6 years with Valley Corp. as a heavy equipment operator. Bill was a member of the Stockyards 400 Club, and stayed active fishing, hunting, and trapshooting. He was a workaholic who enjoyed old country music, a good steak, and a cold beer. He liked to watch NASCAR racing, and cheer for Cornhusker Football. He could often be heard saying “I suppose”, or “idle down”. Bill will be remembered as a hard worker, who would do anything for a friend. Bill died on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 77 years, 6 months, and 17 days. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Mary, sister Betty Baker, and sister-in-law Roseanne Hartman. Bill is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Keith (Lorissa) of Thedford, NE, Kurt (Jill League) of Elk City, NE, Kevin (Jill Mueller) of Valley, NE, and Kyle (Dee Ann) of Gretna, NE, 9 grandchildren: Cody and Justin Hartman, Nathan and Natasha Redwing, Nicholas Hartman, Neil Hartman, Lane Hartman, Logan Hartman, and Isabella Pike, special friend of 12 years, Rose Pike of Omaha, brothers: Robert, Rich (Marcy), Ray (Colleen), sisters: Mary Lou (Gene) Prokop, Barbara (Dennis) Mottl, brother-in-law Dale Baker, and numerous nieces and nephews. William “Bill” Hartman, Jr., age 77, of Waterloo, died 2/27/13. Preceded in death by parents William and Mary, sister Betty Baker, and sister-in-law Roseanne Hartman. Survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Keith (Lorissa) of Thedford, NE, Kurt (Jill League) of Elk City, NE, Kevin (Jill Mueller) of Valley, NE, and Kyle (Dee Ann) of Gretna, NE, 9 grandchildren, special friend Rose Pike of Omaha, brothers: Robert, Rich (Marcy), Ray (Colleen), sisters: Mary Lou (Gene) Prokop, Barbara (Dennis) Mottl, brother-in-law Dale Baker, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service 11 AM Friday, at the funeral home in Elkhorn. Interment Hillcrest-Westlawn in Omaha. Visitation Thursday from 2-8 PM with the family receiving friends from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
