William George Hindmarsh

William George Hindmarsh was born on December 6, 1944 in Caldwell, Idaho to Wesley and Gertrude (Rice) Hindmarsh. He grew up in Arlington, NE, and graduated from Arlington High School in 1963. After high school, Bill joined the United States Marine Corps in February of 1965, and served in the Vietnam War for nearly 4 years until his honorable discharge in January of 1969. He later became a member of the Valley American Legion and VFW. After his return from the military, Bill’s double first cousin set him up on a blind date with her fellow Sunday School Teacher, Linda Anderson. Bill was late to pick her up, and Linda almost didn’t open the door. Bill must have had a good excuse, because they were married later that year on November 7, 1970 at the Fremont Presbyterian Church and were together for 55 years. Bill and Linda raised their family in Fremont, where they lived for 39 ½ years before moving to Elkhorn in 2011. Bill worked at a variety of places including Campbell Soup, Hormel, Douglas County Department of Corrections, Freezer Service, and Walmart. Then, after having back surgery, he started his most important job, babysitting his grandchildren. In general, Bill was a pretty quiet man, but once someone got him talking about something, he could be very chatty. He was mostly a homebody, but he did love to go shopping. Trips to the grocery store meant every aisle had to be browsed, and he firmly believed that if something was worth buying once, it was best to buy it in bulk and store it at home. Bill was also a collector; his Hot Wheels were his most prized collection. He also had a big collection of baseball caps from his favorite teams and from every high school and college his family had ever attended. Bill loved to watch baseball games and drag racing, and his favorite movie of all time was National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Bill was an animal lover who always had to have at least one cat. Most of all, Bill loved his family and was grateful for the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren. Bill is survived by his wife, Linda Hindmarsh; daughter, Jennifer (Ryan) Ninete; son, Scot (Holly) Hindmarsh; and grandchildren, Makena Ninete and Jaxson Ninete. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
