February 9, 1936 - December 3, 2021
Darryl Franklin Casad, 85, attended by loving members of his family, died peacefully Friday, December 3rd at his home in Omaha NE. Darryl, born on February 9th 1936 to his parents Franklin and Alice Casad in Stockton, Kansas. As a young adult he learned welding as a trade, and worked as a plumber/pipefitter on various large-scale construction sites including the John Day Dam on the Columbia River, the Valdez Pipeline in Alaska, and the Trident Submarine Station near Keyport Washington. In his career he worked for a variety of different companies, the most notable included Peerless Truck and Trailer, Todd and Lockheed Shipyards, and the Federal government installation at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Darryl also served in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Darryl always enjoyed "working with his hands," as he would say, and took pleasure in rebuilding home interiors, building large metal sculptures, oil painting, and creating Nscale model railroad landscapes. He especially enjoyed many hours in his large shop (next to his home in Belfair Washington) building from scratch, then flying his radio controlled airplanes alongside other members of the Belfair RC Model Airplane Club. Darryl retired at 62-1/2 years of age. Darryl and Maria had a large set of dear friends in Belfair, Washington with whom they would regularly go on long walks as well as rotate from home to home to play cards, tell stories, and enjoy good food well into the night. Darryl Casad is survived by his wife, Maria, of 41 years; step-daughter Trish and sonin-law Brett Thompson; his son, Marc Casad and daughter-in-law Connie Austin; his son Michael Casad; and grandchildren Ben, Marijke, Ellen, and Indigo. Other special families close to Darryl’s heart included Joe and Suzy Scuderi, Orlando and Airian Medina and their children, who Darryl adored and relished being a kid right along with them! Please join us for a celebration of life for Darryl on January 2nd from 2-4 PM at the home of Brett and Trish Thompson in Omaha. Please E-Mail Trish for home address: [email protected] TBD: A possible event is being considered later this year in his home state of Washington.
