David James Larrick
July 6, 1976 - February 28, 2022
David James Larrick was born on July 6th, 1976 to Jim and Jeannie. He became a big brother to Daniel in 1979 and then to Diana in 1984. Dave grew up in Valley, Nebraska where he attended the local elementary school and met some of his lifelong best friends. He switched schools around the time of junior high and started attending Omaha Christian Academy (OCA). Dave was involved in numerous activities in school including football, track, band, choir, and student government. He also achieved the very high honor of receiving his Eagle Scout. Dave graduated from OCA in 1995. After graduation, he attended Metro Community College on scholarship for two years and then transferred to UNO. Dave received his Bachelor of Science degree in 2001. During college, he worked as a personal trainer at 24 Hour Fitness. After college, he took up work as a foreman for Sudbeck Construction. It was here that Dave was able to learn many skills that would serve him well in future home projects. In 2004, Dave took a job as an account manager for American Nutrition Wholesalers. Dave switched career fields in 2013 and landed a job at Union Pacific. He was there up until his death, working as a customer service manager in Loup Logistics, a subsidiary of Union Pacific. Dave was very proud to work for the railroad and was a beloved member of the team. Dave met his future wife, Kari, in the 7th grade while at OCA. She wasn’t a huge fan of him in the beginning, but by their senior year he had worn her down enough that she agreed to become his girlfriend and the rest is history. He always liked to say that he grew on her like a fungus. She often agreed. They shared a special love that was based on the fact that they were each other’s best friend and were married on October 23, 1999 in Omaha. Dave and Kari welcomed their daughter, Curin, on November 10, 2005 and their son, Conley, on October 23, 2009 (what a special 10th anniversary gift). He adored his children and was a voice of calm, patience, and encouragement in their lives. Dave was a man of deep, quiet faith. He didn’t always talk about it, but it was evident in the way he loved others, his integrity, his words of wisdom and how he accepted everyone just as they were. Besides his faith, family and friends were the most important things to Dave. You would always see him in the stands or on the sidelines cheering his kids on and offering words of encouragement. He and his family enjoyed many adventures together. They would go camping in their pop-up and especially enjoyed checking out fun sites around Nebraska. He also enjoyed road trips with his family. Some highlights were road trips to Yellowstone and most recently, to Moab, Utah. Dave enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, and just hanging out with friends enjoying a beer or maybe someof his famous smoked barbecue. Dave also enjoyed Nebraska football and UNO hockey and was able to make special memories with family and friends while attending numerous games for both. He was a treasure trove of random, amazing, information and possessed the ability to be good at anything he put his mind to. Dave had a wonderful, ornery sense of humor and the best giggle (yes, men can giggle and his was unforgettable). He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and adventure. David J.
