Debra Lynn "Debbie" Strevey

October 6, 1957 - April 14, 2022

Debra “Debbie” Lynn Strevey went home to be with Jesus on April 14th, 2022, at the age of 64 years old. She grew up in Waterloo, Nebraska, and graduated from Waterloo High School with the Class of 1975. Debbie was a member of the National Honor Society and student council, played many sports, and participated in the vocal music program. As a freshman in the fall, while attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), Debbie met her husband Richard “Rick” Strevey while they both worked at the JCPenney department store at Westroads Mall. Rick also noticed that they shared a class at UNO. They dated and got engaged on Friday, February 13th, 1976, because they both worked on Valentine’s Day, and married later that year on the 7th of August in Omaha. Since then, they have been married for over 45 years and have grown their family into the next generations. Debbie was a bookkeeper by trade, but her real passion was family and quality time spent with the people she loved. She was unconventional, adventurous, determined, and loving. She was always ready to jump on her bike for a weekly ‘taco ride’ with friends, take a walk in the neighborhood, plan a trip, or just go out to dinner for no good reason. Her legacy will be that she was fierce in caring for her community. Preceded in death by father Purl Timmerberg and infant sister Connie. Survived by husband Richard “Rick” Strevey of Omaha; children Jennifer Bruening, Rachel Alvarado and husband Victor Alvarado Hernandez, and Timothy Strevey and wife Dana Tabor; grandsons Victor and Samuel Alvarado, and another grandson due in July; mother Melba Timmerberg; sister Diane and husband Tom Merryweather; and nieces and nephews. Funeral service Tuesday, 11 AM at Converge Church, 14515 Harvey Oaks Ave, Omaha, NE 68144. Interment Prospect Hill Cemetery, Elkhorn. Visitation Monday, 5-8 PM at Reichmuth Funeral Home, Elkhorn.
