As a young girl, Elaine worked at a drug store & soda fountain in Norfolk. She enjoyed riding horses on the farm and loved cats. She seemed to have a way with animals and loved them well into her adult years. Elaine married Norman Grashorn on February 21, 1954 in Norfolk, NE. They were blessed with four children: Gary, Duane, Sharon & Glen. Norm & Elaine made their home in Battle Creek, NE for several years before moving to Valley in 1960. Elaine was a night waitress in Fremont when the kids were younger and also at a local café. She worked for 30 years within the Valley School system in the cafeteria and also as administrative personnel. Elaine was a dedicated wife and always enjoyed dancing, playing keno and playing cards with family or her bunco group. In addition, she rode her bike or walked daily. She spent a lot of summers gardening and canning ‘gobs’ of everything. She loved auctions and Friday was her favorite day as she would run errands and go to garage sales. As a testament to her selflessness, she loved the water and took her kids swimming at Two Rivers even though she didn’t know how to swim. She later took lessons in her adult life and enjoyed swimming at the YMCA. Fishing and being outdoors with her family was also a favorite. She was an active member of the Methodist Church for many years and involved in Women’s Group. She always looked forward to attending services and loved her church family at United Faith Community Church. Elaine will be remembered as someone with a big heart who always had a pleasant smile on her face and had a fun-loving spirit about her. She loved bright colors, glitter and added sparkle to almost everything. She was hard-working, kind, caring and thrifty. Her family was her passion and she made the holidays special with her awesome cooking. She will be remembered for her infamous pumpkin pies and homemade baked beans which she made from the heart with no recipe. Elaine went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 5, 2021 at Heritage Shalimar Memory Care with family by her side at the age of 88 years 2 months and 1 day. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her parents, Alvis & Ruby Kollars and siblings: Virgil, Les, and Richard. Elaine is survived by her three sons and daughter; Gary of Omaha, Duane (Kathy) of Fremont and Glen (Lorna) of Bennington; daughter Sharon (Jeff Olson) of Valley, 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Dale, of Fairhaven, MA.
