Marlene Jane Bruner (Borne) January 13, 1969 – December 8, 2021 Marlene was born on January 13, 1969 in Omaha, NE to Otto Borne and Vera Borne (Streitz). She grew up in Omaha and graduated from Benson High School in 1987. As a kid, Marlene loved riding horses, singing in the choir, and playing piano. One of the proudest moments in Marlene’s life was becoming a mother to Tony; she loved to watch him play football as he grew up. On September 9, 2000, Marlene married the love of her life, Griffen “Jody” Bruner, in Omaha, NE. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Valley. Marlene quickly realized how much she disliked the lake houses in Valley, as she was a woman who enjoyed the simpler things in life. Her love of animals was instilled in her from a young age. She had a special place in her heart for horses, but she loved all animals. This may be why one of Marlene’s biggest pet peeves was people who littered; she didn’t want people’s trash ruining animals’ habitats. Caring for horses isn’t an easy task, but Marlene was always sure to make sure all their needs were met and they were comfortable. She learned the importance of hard work- a skill that followed her into adulthood. When she wasn’t out riding horses, she enjoyed relaxing with a glass of Merlot and was known to be a connoisseur of wine. She also enjoyed cheering on the Huskers, listening to classic rock and country music, and during the Christmas season she was always excited to watch her favorite movie, White Christmas. Marlene was an excellent cook, but when she wasn’t in the mood to cook, she frequented Farmer Brown’s where she enjoyed a steak and lobster dinner. Her faith was also important to her, and she was an active member of United Faith Community Church. Those who knew Marlene well knew what a beautiful, compassionate, and caring woman she was. She had the biggest heart and was always there when you needed her. Being around friends and family was one of her favorite pastimes, and she had a way of making people feel welcomed and comfortable. She took the roles of mother, wife, and grandmother very seriously and was devoted to her family. One of the happiest moments of her life was the birth of her granddaughter, Eizlee. When her family stopped by for a visit, they would always hear her exclaim, “My kids are here!” Marlene and her infectious laugh will be greatly missed. Marlene is preceded in death by her parents; father in law, Griffen Bruner; and sister in law, Kim Borne. She survived by her husband, Griffen “Jody” Bruner; son, Tony (Chelsie) Traynor; grandchild, Eizlee Jane Traynor; and siblings: Ron Borne, Christie Hansen, Walter Borne, Roger Borne, and Marcia (PJ) Henderson. VISITATION: 5 – 8 PM Wednesday, December 15th at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00am Thursday, December 16th at United Faith Community Church in Valley.
