Sherry was born on September 18, 1942, in Plainview, NE, to Emory and Doris (Morrison) Bergh. She graduated from Plainview High School and attended the University of Nebraska, earning her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She met Allen Ray Christenson in a chemistry lab at the University of Nebraska. They were married in Plainview, NE, on June 14, 1963. Allen and Sherry lived in New York City, where Sherry taught school on Staten Island while Allen served in the Navy. After Allen completed his Navy service, the family moved to O’Neill, where Sherry was a homemaker. In 1974, the family moved to a small farm southeast of O’Neill where, over the years, Allen and Sherry raised a family; she taught piano lessons, and together, Allen and Sherry grew the farm into a full-time business. While in O’Neill, Sherry was a member of Faith Community Church for more than thirty years. After moving to Omaha, she joined Westside Church. Sherry loved supporting Allen in his church ministry with her gift of hospitality; there were always fresh baked goods and coffee – especially her famous coffee rings. She cared deeply about her children and their eternal wellbeing. She enjoyed turning the fruits of her garden into wonderful meals for family and friends. After moving to Omaha, Sherry hosted Bible studies in her home, enjoyed aquatic aerobics, and walks on the trails near her home. Sherry found strength and comfort in reciting the twenty-third Psalm. Psalm 23:6 (NIV) “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Sherry is survived by sons Reed Christenson, of Portsmouth, RI, Todd Christenson, and wife, Andrea, of Roslyn, NY, Shelly Asplin and husband Toby, of Omaha, NE, sister Cheryl Debes of Elkader, IA, brothers Galen and wife, Joanne Bergh, and Garland Bergh, and grandchildren, Andrew Asplin, Lauren, and Luke Christenson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Allen, her father, Emory Bergh, and her mother, Doris Bergh. The family ask that you practice social distancing and COVID-19 protocols while attending the services.
