Thomas West

Thomas Dewey West was born on May 10, 1975 in Omaha, Nebraska to Jim and Peggy (Allen) West. He grew up in Bennington where he attended grade school and graduated from Bennington High School in 1994. Tom enjoyed wrestling, swing choir, school plays and was the student manager for the basketball team. Tom worked at Big Lots before joining Schering-Plough now Merck as a senior warehouse worker at the animal research facility. He enjoyed movies, comic books and his X-Box. Tom treasured time with his nieces and nephew including regular Saturday lunches and shopping. He also had special time with his dad and brothers, called “happy hour” where they would enjoy cigars on the back deck. Recently, Tom had taken up barbequing. Tom was a private man of few words and often would just point at Carey and expect her to answer. He was a loving and generous man with a multitude of friends. Tom was an avid Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, savored Chinese food and frequented many of the local restaurants. He had no tolerance for people in “his” chair or wanting to drive “his” truck. He was often heard responding to your question with “really?”. Tom passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Lakeside Hospital after a short illness with his family at his side at the age of 37 years, 9 months and 20 days. He was preceded in death by all of his grandparents, sister-in-law Angie and uncles Joe Elias and John West and Larry Allen, and aunt "Tootie" Elias. Tom is survived by his parents Jim and Peggy of Bennington; brothers Tim (Jen) and Jim all of Bennington; sister Carey West of Bennington; nephew Nick West and nieces Kaylee and Illyssa West all of Bennington.
