Viola Maxine Kander

Memorials to the family for later designation Viola Maxine Kander was born on August 31, 1927 near Madison, Nebraska to Louis and Virginia (Warnock) Reese. She grew up on the family farm east of Madison where she attended district #39 country school and graduated from Stanton High School in 1945. As a young girl, Vi was very active on the family farm and enjoyed playing softball. Vi married Alvin Kander on May 27, 1951 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stanton, Nebraska and they were blessed with two sons: Mike and Doug. Vi and Al raised their family, first on a farm south of Stanton and then in Richland before moving to Elkhorn in 1974. Vi worked on the farm before moving to Richland where she work for Becton-Dickinson Company in Columbus for 16 years. After moving to Elkhorn, Vi worked for Swanson Funeral Home/Reichmuth Funeral Home as a receptionist for many years. She enjoyed watching television, solving crossword puzzles, gardening and canning. Vi’s greatest joy came from babysitting her only granddaughter, Rebecca and watching her grow into a beautiful young woman. She was a loving, caring, hard-working woman who enjoyed cooking and baking. Vi was an avid Husker fan, enjoyed grilling and dinner out at Farmer Brown’s. Vi passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at Life Care Center of Elkhorn at the age of 92 years, 6 months and 29 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Virginia, husband Al, brothers Melvin and Lyle, and sister Virginia. Vi is survived by Sons Mike of Fremont and Doug (Sandy) of Bennington.
