Virginia C. "Ginny" Stanzel
June 23, 1944 - October 22, 2021
Virginia C. “Ginny” (Hehn) Stanzel was born June 23, 1944 in Omaha, Nebraska to Harry and Lillian (Pavlec) Hehn. Ginny grew up in Omaha, where she attended Holy Cross grade school, and graduated from Mercy High School. She then earned her degree as a Registered Nurse from St. Catherine’s College. Ginny married Gary Stanzel on October 16, 1965 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Omaha, and to this union, two sons were born; David and Mike. Ginny and Gary made their home in Omaha, and Ginny worked for 44 years as a Pediatric Nurse at Bergan Mercy Hospital. Ginny was a patient, kind, sweet, strong woman, who always tried to see the positive side of things. She loved red roses, red wine, and cheering for the Huskers. Her favorite past times were camping, boating, and fishing, and she was able to indulge all of those things at the lake house. Whether it was a stroll around the lake on the pontoon boat, a glass of wine on the beach, or just simply enjoying the warm weather in her flip flops, Ginny was right at home on the lake. Ginny also enjoyed traveling with her friends, or relaxing on a Sunday morning with a cup of coffee as she read the paper. She was an avid reader, and her dog Molly was constantly at her side. She listened to ‘60’s rock music, and always looked forward to dinner at Brother Sebastian’s, or some of Mike’s BBQ. She will be remembered for her big smiile, her warm heart, and how everyone was always welcome at the lake house. Ginny died at Methodist Hospital in Omaha on Friday, October 22, 2021 at the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 29 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry & Lillian Hehn and husband John “Gary” Stanzel. Ginny is survived by her sons David (Tammy) of Fremont, and Mike, and his significant other, Jesse Christoffersen of Valley, grandchildren; Natalia, Ryan, Nathan, Nick, and Carson, great grandsons Eli and Ryker, special friend George Jagasits, and her yellow lab, Molly.
