Adelyne Katherine Backhuus

Adelyne Katherine (Bull) Backhuus, age 94, was born July 26, 1928 in Omaha, Nebraska, to F.W. and Katherine (Koch) Bull. Addie graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1945. She worked for Guarantee Mutual after high school. While attending a dance at the Milrose Ballroom in Millard, Nebraska, she met Pete Backhuus. They were married October 3, 1948. They were blessed with four children, Mark, Nancy, Mike, and Terry. Addie was a dedicated farm wife for most of her life. She drove the school bus for Bennington Public schools for 20+ years and also worked at JoAnn Fabrics for 15 years. She was a faithful member of St. Johns Lutheran Church. She and Pete were founding members of the Lutheran Club (CFC), was a member of the Rebekka Circle, the Quilters Guild, and chaired the Harvest Supper many times. She also was a member of the Lucky Day Extension Club, was a 4-H Leader, and was a member of the Douglas County Farm Bureau Board. Addie loved to sew, cook, bake, and can fruits and vegetables. While on the farm, if she wasn’t in the kitchen she would be in the garden or on the mower. Her style of mowing was to move things that were in the way after mowing over them. She attended nearly every sporting event that her children and grandchildren participated in. In her later years her grandchildren and great- grandchildren became her main focus, attending their activities, birthdays, wedding etc. Addie is preceded in death by her parents F.W. (Bill) and Katherine Bull, husband Pete, and son Terry. She is survived by Mark (Karla) Backhuus, Nancy (Van) Mohr, Mike (Carole) Backhuus, and Annette (Gary Doll) Backhuus. Grandchildren--Erica (Terry) Morrison, Mandy (Cody) Henrickson, Seth (Jenny) Backhuus, Mallory (Dennis Baker) Mohr, Joel (Katie) Backhuus, Ryan (Julia) Backhuus, Jacob (Emily) Mohr, Shelby (Brad) Starken, Bailey (Justin) Stork, and Erin (Josh) Kage. Great- grandchildren—Alex, Grace, Karac, Luke, Merrill, Max, Cora, Landry, Sawyer, Freya, Nolan, Logan, Van, Palmer, Remi, and Laramie. Funeral service 10:30 AM Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bennington. Interment Flower Hill Cemetery. Visitation Thursday at St. John’s, Bennington from 4-7 PM with family receiving friends from 5-7. Memorials to the church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
