Beverly Ann Johnson

Beverly Ann (Hays) Johnson was born on December 17, 1933 in Arapahoe, Nebraska to George and Velma (Culp) Hays. Beverly’s dad died in a flash flood when she was 18 months old. Her mother remarried a couple of years later to Tom McGuire and because he worked for the Railroad, the family lived in several towns in Nebraska, finally settling down in Falls City, Nebraska where Beverly attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Falls City High School in 1952. Beverly moved to Omaha and was employed at Boys Town until 1956. Beverly married Herman Johnson on July 2, 1955 at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Falls City, Nebraska and to this union three children were born: Toni, Todd and Troy. Beverly and Herman raised their family in Omaha until 1986 when they moved to their current home near Yutan, Nebraska. After raising her family, Beverly went to work at Baxter Car Dealership in Omaha where she was a service cashier for 29 years. She retired just 5 weeks ago. Beverly enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, quilting, yard work and church activities. Beverly is remembered as a hard working woman, a good cook and a woman truly devoted to her family and her church. She was an active member of St. James Catholic Church in Mead, Nebraska. She served as a past president of the PCCW of St. James and was a captain of her Ladies Circle. Beverly passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at her home near Yutan, Nebraska with her family by her side at the age of 74 years, 5 months and 14 days. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Velma Hays, Stepfather Tom McGuire and an infant brother, Terry. Beverly is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Toni and Walt Burr of Blair, Nebraska; sons and daughters-in-law Todd and Lana of Omaha, Nebraska and Troy and Michelle of Elkhorn, Nebraska; grandchildren Kristyn, Michele and David Burr and Tanner, Kaitlyn, Caleb, Gage and Keenan Johnson; brothers Glenn Hays of Bakersfield, California and Tom McGuire and wife Cindy of Claremont, California; sisters Ramona Mullins of Omaha and Patricia McGuire of Woodinville, Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
