Bruce R Collins

Bruce Collins was born to Gene and Veva (Schwinderman) Collins on December 24, 1947 in Hartington, Nebraska. He grew up in Norfolk, Nebraska where he graduated from high school in 1966. After graduating, he attended college in both Milford and Cedar Rapids. While visiting Norfolk during his time in college, Bruce met Kathleen Fliginger and the two quickly fell in love. They were united in marriage on August 11, 1968 at Coe Chapel in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They had two children together, Alicia and Jason. For nearly 20 years, Bruce worked as a mainframe operator for Immanuel Hospital. In his free time, he enjoyed computer games and was knowledgeable in coding. He taught his children how to code as well, always showing great patience while they learned. Bruce also enjoyed board games and hiking, often going to parks to walk with Kathleen. The Renaissance was another area of interest he had. Bruce’s biggest passion was definitely music. He loved to listen to every type of music from classical to heavy metal. Bruce had a huge collection of music totaling over 7,000 vinyls, 45s, and tapes. Bruce was a quiet man but was always ready to engage in a conversation about music. He also volunteered to DJ at Alicia’s school dances. Bruce was compassionate and kind and was always good with kids. He loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Veva Collins; grandchild, Elisia Collins; nephew, Cory Chapman; and grandparents, Edward and Evelyn (Marshall) Collins. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Collins; children, Alicia (Skot) Weiland and Jason Collins; grandchildren, Tasia (Donald) Bochnicek, Drew Weiland (Amanda Hostert), Logan Weiland, and Austin McIntyre; siblings, Chris (John) Chapman and Gary (Cindy) Collins; nieces, nephews, and other family members. On January 20, 2024, Bruce passed away at the Arbor Care Center in Valley, Nebraska. He had epilepsy from birth and had a grand mal seizure at age 18. His family asks that memorials be directed to the Epilepsy Foundation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 2pm at Reichmuth Funeral Home with an inurnment to follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Elkhorn.
