Carrie Elizabeth Dobney

Carrie Elizabeth (Reicks) Dobney was born in New Hampton, Iowa, on June 6, 1980, to Roy and Carolyn (Malone) Reicks. She grew up in Missouri Valley, Iowa, graduating from Missouri Valley High School in 1999. Carrie attended college at Nebraska Methodist College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 2003. In 2009, Carrie was united in marriage to Doug Dobney. She was the proud mother of two children, a son, Dominic, and a daughter, Gwendolyn. They spent their entire married life residing in Elkhorn, Nebraska. Carrie loved being a wife and mother. Her life was centered around creating a warm and happy home for Doug, Dominic and Gwendolyn and taking care of her many beloved cats (Secret, Pilot, Luna, Blu, Sky and Boots). She cherished date nights with her husband Doug, where they would watch the latest movie together. Carrie especially loved attending a winter ball with Doug, where they dressed in formal attire and danced the night away. Carrie was also a devoted and loving mom. She would often attend school activities to watch Dominic and Gwendolyn. On the weekend, she would plan fun activities like trips to the movies, bowling, restaurants and craft shows. Carrie said some of her proudest moments were watching Dominic graduate and seeing Gwendolyn grow into a beautiful young lady. Carrie was a radiant light within her family. Carrie was the planner of holidays, birthday parties, games, activities and vacations. At any family gathering, she would bring her incredible cookies and other baked goodies. Carrie would be the first person to organize a game of volleyball, cornhole, board games or cards. She also loved Christmas and would have her schedule packed with Christmas decorating, shopping and baking cookies every year. Carrie loved organizing a family get-together each year centered around making and exchanging Christmas cookies. She found joy in fostering unity and warmth within her immediate family and beyond. Carrie was always seeking the next exciting adventure. Carrie loved riding roller coasters, traveling, attending music concerts and plays and planning holidays. Carrie and Doug loved Halloween and would participate in the “Trunk or Treat” at St. Patrick's Catholic Church each year. She would spend months planning their spooky theme. Carrie loved planning vacations, coming up with the ideas for the next girls-only trip, or a large get-together with her parents, siblings and their families at a vacation house. Carrie loved to travel to new places and was especially fond of her trips to St. Augustine and Tampa Bay, Florida, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Las Vegas, Nevada and Galveston, Texas. Carrie was a dedicated and knowledgeable caregiver. Carrie started working at Nebraska Medicine in 2004. She performed many important roles during her 21 year career, including registered nurse in the Cardiac Progressive Care Unit and the Patient Placement Unit. She took pride in being a nurse and working with her colleagues to achieve positive outcomes for both patients and families. On May 31, 2025, Carrie passed away of a pulmonary embolism while on vacation in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with her family. She was surrounded by loved ones, including her husband, son, daughter, parents, sisters, brothers and niece. Her family takes comfort in the fact that Carrie passed away doing something she loved, which was being on vacation. Her family wishes for her to be remembered as the caring, fun and adventurous woman she was throughout her entire life. Carrie is survived by her husband, Doug Dobney; children, Dominic Reicks and Gwendolyn Dobney; parents, Roy and Carolyn Reicks; sister, Cinda Orr and her husband Tony Orr; brother, Daryl Reicks and his wife Anita Reicks, brother, Jody Reicks and his wife Julie McDermott, sister Cherie Trimberger and her husband Nick Trimberger; nieces, Rosara Reicks and Gracie Reicks and nephews, Reed Reicks, Damian Orr, Jordan Orr, Andrew Orr and Logan Trimberger.
