Catherine Louise Johnson

Catherine “Kitty” L. Johnson was born on December 28, 1933, to Michael and Ellen Goff. Kitty was the fifth of 15 children growing up in Mobile, Alabama. In her youth, Kitty enjoyed reading and worked at a soda fountain and as an usher at the Roxy Theater. She graduated from Bishop Toolen High School and Mobile General Hospital School of Nursing. Kitty married James H. Johnson, from Omaha, Nebraska on December 1, 1956 at St Francsis Xavier Catholic Church in Mobile. The couple were blessed with four children and celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in December 2006. Kitty lived in Omaha with her family for 20 years before moving to Yutan. Although her residence was Nebraska, her heart remained in Dixie with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Kitty remained an avid reader and enjoyed following the news; especially sports and politics. In her spare time she loved to play golf, a passion she shared with her family as well as gardening, camping and fishing. The holidays were a special time and Kitty enjoyed spending them with her growing family. She traveled throughout the U.S., Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean, with Rome and Ireland being her favorite destinations. Kitty touched the lives of many people as a dedicated and compassionate nurse who worked at Clarkson Hospital for 47 years. Her many years there included labor and delivery where on occasion she was known to deliver a baby or two upon the doctor’s delay. She was proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sharing time with her grandchildren who affectionately called her Nana. Kitty passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28th at the age of 74 years and 6 months. Kitty’s family included her husband Jim, sons Jim Johnson (Sherry) of Elkhorn, NE, Dan Johnson of Omaha NE, daughters Cathy (Richard) Reynolds of Fort Collins, CO, Carol (Jay) Wingler of Elkhorn, NE, eight grandchildren, one great grandson, and 14 brothers and sisters from the heart of Dixie: Peggy, Michael, Billy, Dot, Tommy, Betty, Lawrence, Pat, Rose, Judy, Richard, Joan, Terri, Micky, numerous nieces and nephews. All who loved her knew of Kitty’s dry sense of humor as evidenced by her two favorite football teams “Alabama and whoever played against Nebraska”. “Roll Tide!”
