Charles Fox

Charles William Fox was born on April 11, 1928 in Omaha, Nebraska to Theodore and Ruth (Saunders) Fox. He grew up in Gretna and Waterloo, attending Spring Grove country school and graduated from Waterloo High School in 1945. As a young boy, Charlie enjoyed hunting and fishing and he raised dogs, sometimes as many as 50 Beagles at a time. Charlie served in the Nebraska National Guard. Charlie met Mary Ann Brey on a blind date with a group of his Waterloo friends and they were married in Omaha, Nebraska on August 28, 1949 and they were blessed with a daughter, Patricia. They moved to Valley in 1954 where they have remained. Charlie worked for Roberts Dairy before beginning a 30 year career with Valmont Industries, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, inventing useful items and collecting almost anything, which made cleaning out their home an awesome task. Charlie loved to build and fix anything he needed. He was a strong, ornery and stubborn man with a deep love for his family. Charlie enjoyed watching TV and tending his flower garden. He was an avid Cubs and Husker fan, enjoyed watermelon and ice cream, iced tea and dinner out at Farmer Brown’s and Big Fred’s. Charlie passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018 at Valhaven Nursing Home in Valley, Nebraska at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 12 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Ruth, wife Mary Ann and grandson Aaron Haynes. Charlie is survived by his daughter Pat Osborne of Waterloo, NE; grandchildren Tracey Albers and and Sheila Craig of Omaha, Chris and Stacey Albers of Omaha and Deana Haynes-Nye and Baird Nye of Elkhorn; great grandchildren Matthew Osborne, Patrick Albers and Brianna Haynes.
