Memorials to Wounded Warrior Project Cynthia Sue Walpus Fields was born on October 28, 1956 in Jacksonville, North Carolina to John and Waneta (Kriz) Walpus. She grew up in the Ralston and South Omaha area where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Ralston High School in 1974. As a young girl, Cindy enjoyed camping, reading, sewing and playing cards. She was active in softball, bowling and water skiing. Cindy married Dennis Ray Fields on November 15, 1975 at St. Gerald’s Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska and they were blessed with four children: Matthew Scott, Amy Jo, Sarah Elaine and Andrew Nicholaus. They have made their home in Elkhorn for 35 years. Cindy has worked as a teacher assistant at Westridge Elementary School in Elkhorn. She still enjoyed the outdoor activities of fishing, camping, bird watching and boating. Cindy loved to sew, tend to her vegetable and flower gardens but especially treasured the time she could spend with her grandchildren. She was a member of Lifegate Church where she was active in many areas and donated time at the Open Door Mission. Cindy was a loving and caring wife and mother. She was slow to judge and quick to forgive; she had no enemies, only friends. Cindy instilled the love of the outdoors in her children and cherished their time together on these outings. She loved to play Farkel, watch Hallmark movies and savor a good cup of coffee. Cindy was an avid Husker fan, enjoyed Italian and Mexican cuisine and dinner out at Brother Sebastians. Truly a spiritual woman, Cindy could often be heard saying: “God brought me to it and he will get me through it. She will be remembered as compassionate, thoughtful and faithful. Cindy passed away on September 29, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 61 years, 11 months and 1 day. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Waneta, uncle Jim Walpus. Cindy is survived by husband Dennis; sons Andrew and Matthew both of Ft. Collins, CO; daughters Amy Williams of Elkhorn and Sarah (Vince) Renken of Ft. Collins, CO; 6 grandchildren; Sisters Pam (Coleman) Toth of Priest River, ID and Denise Walpus of Omaha; brother Timothy (Kris) Walpus of Omaha.
