Cynthia May Hawver

Memorials to: Nebraska Humane Society Cynthia M. (Nordstrom) Hawver was born on January 16, 1954 in Omaha, Nebraska to Vernon and Bertha (Saylors) Nordstrom. Cynthia grew up in the Keystone neighborhood of Omaha and graduated from Benson High School in 1972. Cindy always enjoyed crafting and creating various art projects when she was younger, and she helped decorate the homecoming floats in high school. Cindy married William Hawver on September 16, 1981 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Omaha, and to this union, two children were born: Amanda and Tim. Cindy and Bill raised their family in Omaha before moving to Elkhorn in 1987. Cindy had a multitude of jobs throughout the years, most recently working at Elkhorn Public Schools for over five years as a Teacher’s Assistant. However, she was most proud to claim the title of “Grandma” to Alyssa and Ethan. Cindy continued to enjoy crafting as an adult. She was always keeping busy scrap-booking, gardening, cooking, baking, landscaping, and creating intricate designs with her Cricut machine. She loved sharing her crafts with friends, family, and even strangers to bring them a smile. She also had a soft spot in her heart for dogs, and the neighborhood children affectionately called her “The Boxer Lady”. Cindy enjoyed cheering on the Huskers, a good meal from Johnny Sortino’s, and family holidays (complete with cranberry and Sprite punch). While she had many sayings, her family’s favorite is "you've got to take the salt with the sugar". She cherished spending time with her grandchildren, who will continue to carry on her legacy. Cindy will always be remembered as loving, giving, and creative, with a determined and strong fighting spirit. Cindy passed away at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the age of 64 years, 8 months, and 5 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Bertha Nordstrom, brother Ronald Nordstrom, sisters: Sandra Dammann and Jackqala, and brother-in-law Jon Kirby. She is survived by husband William, son Tim of Omaha, daughter and son-in-law Amanda and Darrin DiNapoli of Elkhorn, grandchildren Alyssa and Ethan DiNapoli, and sisters and brothers-in-law: Linda and Walt Wolverton of Springfield, NE, Debi and John Gibilisco of Omaha, Wanda and Mike Longsdorf of Omaha, and Rita Kirby of Olathe, KS.
