Elva Lorena McFarland

Elva Lorena (Alley) McFarland was born December 8, 1915 in Seward, Nebraska to Levi and Cora (Hollaway) Alley. She grew up in Seward, and attended school there, graduating from Seward High School in 1933. Elva married Orville McFarland on December 2, 1933 in Lawrence, Kansas, and to this union, two daughters were born: Wanda and Brenda. The family lived in Texas for a time, before moving to Valley, Nebraska. Elva moved to Elkhorn, and most recently lived Wahoo, Nebraska for the last five years. Orville preceded Elva in death in 1980. Elva worked for 17 years as a sales representative in the cosmetics department at Younker’s, retiring in 1991. She had also been active with the “Over 60 Club” in Elkhorn for many years. Elva was an avid dancer, and enjoyed gardening, reading, doing puzzles, and playing BINGO. She loved to travel, especially when the family could travel together, and loved spending time with friends. She cheered for the Huskers, and was always ready for a game of cards. Elva was a woman who loved unconditionally, never judged, and only gave advice when asked. She cherished her family, and time spent together, and held most dear the births of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She will be missed my many, but remembered for her beautiful heart. Elva passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Saunders Medical Center in Wahoo, Nebraska at the age of 97 years, 10 months, and 11 days. She was preceded in her death by husband Orville, parents Levi and Cora Alley, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Elva is survived by her daughters & sons-in-law: Wanda & Richard Marr of Elkhorn, Brenda & Jim Hughes of Wahoo, grandchildren: Richard Marr, Jr., Scott Marr, Shawn Weyh, Keith Bouchard, 15 great grandchildren:Andrew Marr, Ryan Marr, Richard Marr, III, Preston Marr, Lauren Marr, Brien (Vorel) Schamp, Sean Vorel, Matthew Vorel, Madison Vorel, Nicole Rowray, Jessica Johnson, Dawn Blanchard, Lauren Bouchard, Lily Bouchard, and Piper Bouchard, 13 great great grandchildren, and sister Verneal Burkey, of Seward, NE. Elva L. McFarland, age 97, of Wahoo, died 10-19-13. Preceded in death by husband Orville. Survived by daughters & sons-in-law: Wanda & Richard Marr of Elkhorn, Brenda & Jim Hughes of Wahoo, grandchildren: Richard Marr, Jr., Scott Marr, Shawn Weyh, Keith Bouchard, 15 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, sister Verneal Burkey, of Seward, NE. Funeral service 1 PM Thursday, 10/24/13. Visitation Wednesday, 1-8 PM with family receiving friends 6-8 PM all at the funeral home in Elkhorn. Graveside service will be Thursday at 3:30 PM at the North Seward Cemetery, Seward, NE. Memorials to the Nebraska Humane Society or the Arthritis Foundation.
