Frances May Zaugg

Frances May Lewis was born on February 5, 1934, on the family farm near Valley, Nebraska, to Russell and Erma (Brown) Lewis. She grew up in the Valley area, attending grade school and graduating from Valley High School in 1951. In 1952, Frances married Richard Timm, and to this union three children were born: Thomas, Leland, and Christi. Frances worked at Boys Town, then at Robinson Seed Company for a few years. In 1966, they moved to Yutan, Nebraska, where they owned “Rich’s Bar” until 1986. Rich passed away in 1981. Frances married Charles Zaugg in 1988. She worked at Mutual of Omaha for a short time before finally working at 3M Company in Valley, Nebraska until retirement. Frances was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Yutan and a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 262. She enjoyed shopping and going places with her sister Delores “Zoe”, attending her grandchildren’s sports events, Nebraska football, and occasional trips to the casino with Kelli and Kathy, or anyone else who wanted to take her, crossword puzzles, and her two dogs, Mini and Tina. On April 11, 2026, Frances passed away at Valley Lakes Assisted Living at the age of 92 years, 2 months, and 6 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Erma Lewis; husbands, Richard Timm and Charles Zaugg; sons, Tom and Lee Timm; daughter, Christi Kurtz, brothers, Bob (Delores) and Ed (Joyce) Lewis; sisters-in-law, Pat Zaugg and Lois Dawson; brother-in-law, Wes Zaugg; and stepson, Rick. Frances is survived by her sister, Delores Woodworth of Omaha; 9 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ron Dawson of O’Fallon, Missouri; and stepsons, Mitch of Mead, Gregg of Leshara and John of Yutan. A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 5-7 PM at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Yutan, NE. The funeral service will be on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 11 AM at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Yutan, NE. A private family burial will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Elkhorn, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Legion Auxiliary Post 262 or the Yutan VFW Post 9844.
