Glenn Edwin Ping

Glenn Edwin Ping was born September 26, 1942 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Leroy and Evelyn (Williams) Ping. Glenn grew up in St. Joseph where he was active in baseball. Glenn was a member of the United States Air Force from March 3, 1960 until his honorable discharge in December 1964. During his time in the Air Force, Glenn met and married Sharon Peterson. They were married on Glenn’s birthday, September 26, 1964 in Bennington, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with two children: Glenda and Scott, and made their home in Omaha. Glenn worked for Avco, Hinky Dinky, and then spent 25 years as a salesman with Kimberly-Clark, retiring with the title of Senior Sales Representative. Recently, Glenn worked at Schmidley’s Driving Range in Omaha. He loved the work, and it gave him a chance to socialize with the golfers. Glenn enjoyed an active life. He could often be found playing golf, softball, bowling or volleyball. He and Sharon played softball every Friday night on the “Odd Couples” team! When not playing softball, Glenn and Sharon loved golfing with friends. Glenn also enjoyed watching all of the family’s sporting events. From coaching Glenda and Scott in softball and baseball, to attending the grandkids’ games, Glenn was happy to be a part of it, and was more than willing to critique the games and the referees! Glenn was also an avid card player. He would play poker with Scott and his friends (oftentimes winning), and got a kick out of teaching the grandkids how to play! During football season, Glenn would spend Saturday’s watching the Huskers, and yelling at the TV. Glenn’s favorite holiday was Thanksgiving because he enjoyed the time with all the family, he loved eating all the food, and he “never met a dessert he didn’t like!” His only pet peeve seemed to be people that didn’t agree with him. Most of all, Glenn was the friendliest guy around, and he loved to visit with family and friends. Glenn passed away at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the age of 70 years, 6 months, and 21 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Leroy & Evelyn, and brothers Lester and Ronnie Ping. Glenn is survived by his wife Sharon, daughter Glenda (Mark) Niksick, and son Scott (Mindi) Ping all of Omaha, granddaughters: Holly, Megan, and Katelyn Niksick, sisters: Patty Brunke, Kathy Gwen, and Teri Giffin, sister-in-law Sheila Ping, brother-in-law Elton (Marla) Peterson & family, special extended family: Judy (Tony) Gray and the Paradies family, and honorary granddaughters: Natalie & Nicole Allen. Glenn E. Ping, age 70, of Omaha, died 4/16/13. Preceded in death by parents Leroy & Evelyn, brothers: Lester and Ronnie Ping. Survived by wife Sharon, daughter Glenda (Mark) Niksick, and son Scott (Mindi) Ping all of Omaha, granddaughters: Holly, Megan, and Katelyn Niksick, sisters: Patty Brunke, Kathy Gwen, and Teri Giffin, sister-in-law Sheila Ping, brother-in-law Elton (Marla) Peterson & family, special extended family: Judy (Tony) Gray and the Paradies family, honorary granddaughters: Natalie & Nicole Allen. Funeral service 10:30 A.M. Friday, at the funeral home. Interment Prospect Hill Cemetery, Elkhorn. Visitation Thursday from 2-8 PM with the family receiving friends from 6-8.
