Jean Marie Hudson

Jean Marie Hudson (Hodgdon), 86, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on July 18th after a brief battle with cancer. Born on April 21, 1940 in Westwood, Massachusetts, Jean was the daughter of John and Margaret Hodgdon. She graduated from Westwood High School in 1958 and Northeastern University in 1962 with a degree in Elementary Education. She went on to teach in the Wellesley, Massachusetts school system until she had children. Jean was a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother whose life was marked by generosity, kindness, and a sweet spirit. Warm and hospitable, she cared deeply for others and was always the consummate hostess, making everyone feel welcome. An avid outdoorswoman and enthusiastic traveler, Jean found joy in exploring God’s creation. She especially loved hiking, skiing, and canoeing. After conquering all of New England’s 67 highest peaks, she and her cherished fellow adventurer, Tom, moved to Colorado to continue climbing even higher mountains. Her travels took her to all fifty states and across much of the world. Whether backpacking north of the Arctic Circle in Alaska or seeing the five highest peaks in the world, Jean loved being outdoors. Jean’s faith in Christ was the steady center of her life. She served faithfully in several churches as a Sunday school teacher, small group Bible study host, mission board member, and English teacher to foreign exchange students. Jean was always volunteering. Her days were marked by a quiet, steadfast commitment to serving God and others. Above all, Jean treasured time with her family. She delighted in planning adventures for them whenever they visited, creating memories filled with laughter, adventure, and love. Jean is survived by her devoted husband, Tom, and their children: John and his wife Carolyn of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Kathryn and her husband Matthew Harmon of Warsaw, Indiana. She was blessed with six adoring grandchildren—Jonathan, Jacob (and his wife Autumn), Daniel, William, Elisabeth, and Joshua—each of whom brought her immense joy. A memorial service will be held on July 27th at 3:00 PM at Omaha Bible Church.
