John Charles Jorgensen

John Charles Jorgensen was born on September 21, 1937 in Waseca, Minnesota to Albert and Senora (Singlestad) Jorgensen. He grew up in Waseca before moving to Elkhorn between his freshman and sophomore year. John attended Elkhorn High School and graduated in 1955. John enjoyed competing in sports, eventually playing basketball and golf at Midland College in Fremont where he graduated with a Degree in Education in 1960. While at Elkhorn, he met Karen Parkening. John and Karen dated during high school and eventually wed on August 29, 1959 at Bethany Lutheran Church…probably somewhat to her father Leonard’s chagrin. After living several years on Leonard’s farm, John and Karen settled in Elkhorn. They raised two children, Tami and Todd, and four bulldogs. John was always a hard worker. To help pay for school, John worked at a lot of places including Mystery Oil, the Union Pacific Railroad, the Stockyards, and at a rendering plant in South Omaha. John also enjoyed many years helping Leonard farm, eventually winning him over (we think). After graduation from Midland, John taught and coached at Ralston High School where he enjoyed time with his students and fellow teachers. After 18 years at Ralston, John left to manage a rendering plant in South Omaha, and then eventually in Wahoo. After retiring-retiring, John worked at Miracle Hill golf course. In addition to being a hard worker, John liked to have a good time. He loved being with friends. He enjoyed his Big 8 football road trips, tailgating, the Couples Card Club, and playing poker. He looked forward to his annual golf outings, especially playing PGA courses. He enjoyed singing with Tami in the church choir and was a member of the Eagles Club. And of course, he liked happy hour and his cold Budweiser (and eventually Bud Light). He was always friendly, appreciative, and willing to buy. Most of all, John loved his family and relished the time spent with them, especially his six grandkids. John passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 in Fremont after a long battle with cancer. John was 84 years old. John and Karen were married for nearly 63 years. John is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Senora, and his sister Barb. John is survived by his wife Karen; daughter and son-in-law Tami and Toby Robinson of Elkhorn, NE; son and daughter-in-law Todd and Mindy Jorgensen of Augusta, ME; grandchildren Travis and Shannon Robinson, Tara, Talia, Tessa and Amanda Jorgensen; brother Don Jorgensen of Bonita Springs, FL; sister and brother-in-law Kris and Keith Hanson of Elkhorn, NE. Funeral service Tuesday, 10:30 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church, Elkhorn. Interment at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Elkhorn. Visitation Monday from 4-8 PM with family receiving friends from 6-8 at the funeral home in Elkhorn. Memorials to church or the charity of your choice.
