Kathleen E. Dyl

Kathleen E. “Kathy” (Hartgenbush) Dyl was born July 19, 1949 in Langlaid County, Wisconsin to Emmett and Caryl (Ross) Hartgenbush. Kathy grew up in Chicago, Illinois where she attended Providence of God school before graduating from Foreman High School in 1967. Education was important to Kathy, and later in life she went on to earn her Associate’s degree from Metropolitan Community College, then her Bachelor’s degree in Humanities from College of St. Mary’s, and finally achieved her Master’s degree in History from the University of Nebraska in Omaha. Kathy married Anthony J. Dyl, Jr. on August 23, 1969 at St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois. The couple was blessed with two sons; Stephen A. and Jason E. The family made their home in Lombard, Illinois until 1985 when they moved to Omaha, Nebraska. Kathy was a mom, first and foremost, and she volunteered at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church when the boys were growing up. She then worked at CFG and Farmer’s National Company in Omaha. Kathy stayed active by singing in Glee Club, and enjoyed gardening, crafting, sewing, baking, reading, and doing jigsaw puzzles. She loved all flowers and plants, and she enjoyed musicals and listening to Celtic music. She cheered for the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and looked forward to a lobster dinner. She will be remembered as a kind, loving and eccentric woman, who put her family first, and cherished spending time with her friends, sons, and especially her grandchildren. Kathy passed away after a brief illness at her home in Omaha on May 12, 2023 at the age of 73 years, 9 months, and 24 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Emmett & Caryl Hartgenbush, sister Shirley Jones, and brother Jack Hartgenbush. Kathy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Tony, sons and daughter-in-law Stephen & Julie, and Jason, grandchildren Isabella, Jackson and Hunter Dyl, sister Barbara Wood, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 24 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Omaha. Visitation Tuesday, May 23 from 4-7 PM with a Wake service at 7 PM at Reichmuth Funeral Home, Elkhorn. Private interment at a later date. Memorials to the Nebraska Humane Society, Adopt-a-Platoon, or the St. Labre Indian School.
