Lowell Dean Growcock

Lowell was born June 21, 1935 and peacefully passed-away in his sleep August 29, 2008, in Texas City, Texas at the age of 73. Lowell grew up in Valley, Nebraska and attended Creighton University. He is survived by his children Dean, DeAnn, Dan & Dale and their spouses Ginsy, Doug & Ginger; grandchildren Amanda, Earl, Joel, Chad, Shelby; his beloved friend Ann King, her daughter Rachel and grandchildren Haleigh, Jamie and Shane; and his former wife, Maureen Vail. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl C. & Emma Growcock, brother Harlan, son Dane, daughter-in-law Alicia, granddaughter Michelle & great-granddaughter, Serenity. Lowell will be remembered by his family and friends as a passionate chef, whose greatest joy was sharing his tasty creations. Family and friends gathering Saturday, September 13, 2008, 11:00 am with service at 12:30 pm at Reichmuth Funeral Homes, 21901 West Maple Road, Elkhorn, NE. Reception to follow at 2:00 pm at the Eagles Club located at 20276 Wirt St., formerly known as 302 E Douglas. Because Lowell’s favorite television program was America’s Test Kitchen, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). Lowell Dean Growcock Lowell was born at his Grandmother Ida's house in Waterloo, Nebraska on her bed on June 21, 1935 and peacefully passed-away in his sleep on his own bed in Texas City, Texas on August 29, 2008, at the young age of 73. Lowell grew up in Valley, Nebraska, went to Creighton University in Omaha, Ne & lived in Michigan, Kansas & Ohio before finally making his way to Texas in 1981. Lowell was a quite person who never raised his voice or showed if he was angry. When his children were young he was always working so if we wanted to spend time with him we went to work with him. So it's not surprising that all of his children have worked with him as adults at one time or another and Dale worked with him his whole adult life and is still earring on his memory in the flooring business. He was a generous man who always helped others if he could. He was very close to his brother Harlan and supported him most of his life. He is survived by his children and grandchildren with his first wife Maureen (Murphy) Vail: Dean & son Earl Zachary, DeAnn & husband Doug Hines & daughters Amanda & Shelby Jo, Dan & Ginger, Dale & sons Joel & Chad. His dear friend Ann King, her daughter Rachel and grandchildren Haleigh, Jamie and Shane. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl Wallace & Emma (91) Growcock, brother Harlan (65), son Dane (2), Dale's wife Alicia (41), and on July 12,2008 Lowell lost his granddaughter Dale's daughter Michelle (25) & great-granddaughter Dale's granddaughter Serenity (3 months) in a tragic car accident. Lowell will be remembered by his family and friends as a passionate chef, whose greatest joy was sharing his tasty creations. His love of cooking and searching for new and exciting dishes includes over 300 cookbooks, enough so that he would never have to eat the same thing twice. However he had his favorites (or at least our favorites) that he cooked more often, like King Ranch Chicken, Bar B Que ribs & Cheese Cake, along with every kind of bread you can think of. Next time you have a delicious meal or walk on any floor covering think of Lowell who enjoyed bringing those things into people’s lives.
