Marilyn Ann Waugh

Marilyn Ann Waugh was born on April 27, 1932, to Earl and Helen (Freeman) Johnson. She was the youngest of two children. Marilyn grew up on her grandparents’ farm when she was younger. When her Mom remarried, she again found herself on a farm. One of her fondest memories was of an old horse that she had, which instilled a love of horses all her life. She attended country school at District #35 and graduated from Valley High School in 1949. Marilyn loved sports but at the time Valley didn’t have room for girl sports since there weren’t any sports facilities available. After graduating, Marilyn lived in Omaha where she enrolled in secretarial training. On October 7, 1950, Marilyn married Richard “Dick” Waugh at the Baptist Presbyterian Church in Valley, NE. They were blessed with four children. Within 6 ½ years they were a family of 6. Marilyn became a full-time wife and Mom quite quickly. In 1954, Marilyn and Dick moved onto the family farm where Marilyn was kept busy instilling the love of Jesus to her children, sewing clothes, preparing meals, gardening, canning, baking, fixing lunches, and all those other special things Mom’s do. Marilyn was a Mom that listened to her children and loved them unconditionally. She was a big believer in the power of praying for others but especially for her family. She took the time to play board games and to have fun with her children, too. When her children were growing up, she was a Sunday School teacher. She was also active in the Christian Women’s group for years. Marilyn loved stream fishing and being outdoors. Every summer she organized the impossible…getting food and clothes packed for the family so they could go to the mountains of Wyoming and Colorado for a two-week vacation. After their children grew up, they would take their grandchildren. One at a time, of course! Many great memories were made during those trips. Marilyn and Dick continued to travel seeing many wonderful places. A couple of those highlights were a cruise to Alaska and a white-water rafting trip to Colorado. They spent many nights enjoying square dancing and waltzing with friends. Marilyn and Dick were married for almost 72 years. Marilyn went to see her Lord on Friday, April 17,2026. She is survived by her children: Jerri Hamilton of Fairbury, NE; Jeff & Lois Waugh of Fairbury, NE; Dave and Gayl Waugh of Goodyear, AZ; and Judy & Rex Southwick of Valley, NE. She is also survived by 6 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren; sisters-in-law; Elaine Jung of Mason, OH; Marilyn Cunningham of North Las Vegas, NV; and Marjorie Plambeck of Indianapolis, IN. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Waugh; her parents, Earl & Helen Johnson; stepdad, Luke Staniec; brother, Max Johnson; sisters-in-law, Maxine Johnson and Nelda Waugh; and brothers-in-law Leroy Stamp, Burt Jung, Myron Plambeck, Jim Cunningham and Harlan Waugh. Memorial donations are suggested to the Family for later designation.
