Marlene J Louis

Marlene Joy (Lord) Louis was born July 22, 1942 in Gary, Indiana to Roland and Mildred (Mullner) Lord. The family moved to Norfolk, Nebraska where Marlene attended Washington elementary, and Norfolk High School. Marlene married Harold Louis on July 27, 1963 at the Methodist Church in Columbus, Nebraska. They were the proud parents of Nels, Lori, Shawn, Brandon and Jennifer, and made their home in Columbus. Marlene owned her own plant store for a while, and worked at Audrey’s Gift Store, but most of all, she was mom to her five kids. Through the years, Marlene was active with the Elkhorn Eagle’s Club, her quilter’s club, and because of her love of animals, was involved with the Little White Dog Rescue (and failed 4 times, after adopting 4 dogs!) Marlene enjoyed bowling, collecting, sewing, knitting, antiques, playing Canasta with friends, and camping. She cherished time with her sister, Sandy, and going to Texas for the winter. Her favorite color was blue, and she had fun cheering for the Cornhuskers, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas City Royals. She was a giving woman, who was good at keeping up with the times. Marlene was a very social person, and she lived life to the fullest. She collected antiques, Hallmark ornaments, Blue/White, and almost anything else. She loved shopping, gardening, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was her daughter’s best friend, and she was always there when they needed her. She had a heart of gold, and will be remembered as a compassionate, funny, and ornery (in a good way) woman. She was fun! Marlene died at the Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska on Friday, May 7, 2021 at the age of 78 years, 9 months, and 16 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Roland & Mildred Lord, husband Harold, and son, Brandon Louis. Marlene is survived by her children Nels & Lisa Johnson of Gretna, Lori & Roger Folkers of Osmond, NE, Shawn Louis of Columbus, NE, and Jennifer Geislar of Elkhorn, 12 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren, and sister and brother-in-law Sandy and Fran Bulawa of Newcastle, WY. Marlene J. Louis, age 78, of Elkhorn, died 5-7-21. Preceded in death by parents Roland & Mildred Lord, husband Harold, and son, Brandon Louis. Survived by children Nels & Lisa Johnson of Gretna, Lori & Roger Folkers of Osmond, NE, Shawn Louis of Columbus, NE, and Jennifer Geislar of Elkhorn, 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law Sandy & Fran Bulawa of Newcastle, WY. Visitation Monday from 5-8 PM at Reichmuth Funeral Home, Elkhorn. Memorial service Tuesday 11 AM at the funeral home. Private family interment. Memorials to the Cancer Research Institute.
