Marvin Theodor Koglin

Marvin Theodor Herman Koglin was born on June 19th, 1936 in Scribner, Nebraska. Marvin worked on the family farm in Scribner raising sheep, cattle and crops, delivered newspapers, mowed yards, worked at the grocery store, and as a plumber's assistant during high school. He played baseball and the trumpet in high school and was a meat cutter at the grocery store after high school. He volunteered for the US Navy and served two years in 1955-1956. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor and served on the USS Edmonds, the USS Walton and USS Renshaw Destroyer/Escorts. His tour of duty included Japan, Guam, and the Carolinas. After his service to our country, he returned to Nebraska and married Marlene Mitties from North Bend on September 12, 1958. They were married for 56 years. Marvin worked at Western Electric and Hormel Corp. prior to owning Koglin Oil in Fremont which he operated for 30 years before retiring. He was a member of the volunteer fire department and served as President. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Eagles in Fremont. He was also a leader in the Cosmopolitan Service Club and was a supporter of Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He coached little league baseball and men’s fast pitch softball, and sponsored men’s and women’s fast and slow pitch softball teams and bowling teams. Marvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a hard worker and instilled that work ethic in his children and their families. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and rarely missed a sporting event or activity often attending several in one day. He had a great sense of humor and an easy laugh. He loved Polka music, John Wayne and old Western movies, and especially enjoyed vacationing with his family. He was a car and tractor enthusiast and was in the process of restoring a 1949 Chevy pickup that he had owned for many years. Although he was a big strong man he also had a sensitive side and made cupcakes for every birthday celebration which was traditionally held at his house. He treated his son-in-laws like they were his sons and often loaned them tools and helped them with their vehicles and home repair projects. Marvin was a very generous man and will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him. He is survived by his wife Marlene, daughters Kimberly Koglin, Korinne Krause (Tim), and Kamilla Kruger (Terry), grandchildren Koglin C. Krause (Beth), Keegan Krause (Caitlin), Melissa Dunn (Cory), Matthew McKenzie, Katherine Bingham (Lucas), Kyle Kruger and two great grandchildren Norah Dunn and Bronko Krause, siblings Audrey Buhrman, Evelyn Kinney (Dale), Larry Koglin (Lois) and Dianne Ryan (Daniel), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Martha Koglin, and his grandparents Herman and Anna Koglin and Theodore and Minnie Meyer, brother Herbert Allen Koglin, sister Alice Vetick, and brother-in-laws Robert Rochford and Harold Buhrman. Marvin passed away at his home in Omaha on November 8th, 2014. He was 78 years old. Visitation will be at Reichmuth Funeral Home on Thursday, November 13th from 6 to 8 pm. His funeral is at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4200 N 204th St., Elkhorn, NE, Friday, November 14th at 11 AM. Memorials to Bethany Lutheran Church Elkhorn.
