Mary Katherine Daugherty

DMary Katherine Cortese Daugherty was born on June 6, 1958 in Omaha, Nebraska to Anthony and Donna (Goldsberry) Cortese. She grew up in Omaha where she attended Holy Cross grade school and graduated from Omaha Ryan High School in 1975. As a young girl, Mary enjoyed reading, listening to the music of the Beatles and spending time with her cat, Pepper. Mary married Larry Daugherty on May 15, 1982 in Omaha, Nebraska and they were blessed with four children: Justin, Laura, Mike and Anthony. Mary and Larry have raised their family in Omaha. Mary worked in Immigration for over 20 years. She still enjoyed Beatles music, reading, Disney, Jeopardy, crossword puzzles, games and detective shows. She was a regular contributor to St. Jude’s Hospital and ASPCA. Mary was passionate and selfless with her children, dedicated to family, sarcastic in a playful way and was always concerned about the well-being of others. In addition to family events, attendance at Paul McCartney concerts were highlights for her. Mary will be remembered as playful, emotionally deep, inquisitive, engaged and thoughtful. Her passion for the Beatles’ music cannot be over-stated. Some of her favorites include “Let It Be” and “Imagine”. Mary was an avid 49er’s fan and savored a mostaccioli dinner, ice tea and dinner out at LaCasa Pizzaria. Family reflections include: That she wanted nothing more than her children to be happy and to have what they wanted in life. That she cared about the world and the suffering of others. That she felt deeply and had a deep connection to her emotions and self. That she loved history, knowledge, and learning and growth. That she loved, a lot, always. Mary passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at her home in Omaha at the age of 61 years, 6 months and 29 days. She was preceded in death by her mother Donna Cortese and grandmother Isabel Goldsberry. Mary is survived by her Husband Larry of Omaha; Father, Anthony Cortese of Omaha; Sons Justin Daugherty of Minneapolis, Mike Daugherty of Bennington and Anthony Daugherty of Omaha; Daughter, Laura Daugherty of Omaha; Brothers Steve (Karen) Cortese of Omaha and Mike(Maya) Cortese of Omaha. Grandsons Elijah and Joseph.
