Mary Catherine Evans

Mary Catherine Manasil Evans was born on July 3, 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska to William and Marie (Oliverius) Manasil. She grew up in Burwell and graduated from Burwell High School. Mary Kay went on to graduate from Duschane University in Omaha, Nebraska with a degree in teaching. As a young girl, she enjoyed riding horses and spending time with her family and friends. Mary Kay married Douglas Evans on November 27, 1959 at Sacred Heart Parish in Burwell, NE. They were blessed with four children Michael, David, Douglas and Stephanie. They started their married life together in Bartelsville, OK and eventually moved to Omaha and then Albion, Nebraska. Mary Kay has worked as a political campaign manager and real estate salesperson, but first and foremost she was a wonderful homemaker. She has always been very active in community activities including being on the UNL board of regents advisory council. Mary Kay’s faith in God has always been her foundation. She has enjoyed being a CCD teacher and lecter at the various churches she has attended. She was a den mother and district leader for the Boy Scouts, active in Red Cross, Nebraska Commission for the Status of Women (past president) and Albion booster club president. Mary Kay was also a community physician recruiter in Albion where she was responsible for 34 Vietnamese doctors and their families relocating and practicing in Nebraska. She was honored with a national caregiver award from Home Instead. Mary Kay, MK, Mom or Gams was known for her ability to listen and love without judgement. Mary Kay stepped into eternal joy on July 22, 2014 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 77 years and 19 days. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Marie, Manasil. Mary Kay is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Stephanie and Doug Penington of Elkhorn, Nebraska; sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Geni of Gretna, Nebraska, David and Lisa of Grove, Oklahoma and Douglas and Angela of Waverly, Nebraska. 12 grandchildren: Jordan, Tanner, Hayleigh, Tyler, Erik, Annika, Evan, Conor, Joshua, Micah, Uriah and Ariel.
