Maureen Susan Brush

Maureen Susan Brush (née Moody), age 77, passed away peacefully on January 15th, 2026, in Omaha, Nebraska. Maureen was born on October 29, 1948, in Manson, Iowa, to Harold and Mary Moody. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Mike Moody and Mary Ann Viken. Maureen was the beloved wife of George Brush, whom she married on December 18, 1978. Together they built a life grounded in faith, love, and devotion to family. She was a proud and loving mother to Ben Brush of Omaha, Nebraska, and Kelsey Lahaie (Richard) of Elkhorn, Nebraska. Her greatest joy was being “Grandma” to her cherished grandchildren, Caleb Brush, George Lahaie, and Molly Lahaie. Maureen is also survived by her beloved dog, Griffey, a loving friend who was never far from her side. She is remembered by extended family and many dear friends whose lives were forever changed by knowing her. Maureen earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Nebraska Omaha. She devoted her professional life to serving children as an Elementary Speech Pathologist with Omaha Public Schools and Millard Public Schools, where her compassion, patience, and belief in every child’s potential made a lasting impact on countless students and families. Kind, gracious, resilient, and eternally optimistic, Maureen lived her life rooted in her Christian faith. She believed deeply in treating everyone with kindness and empathy, and she had a rare gift for making people feel safe, welcomed, and at home in her presence. She had a love for all animals, including many family pets, which was a reflection of her compassionate heart. Her “fighter’s spirit,” carried with faith, love, and gentleness, will be what many remember most. Maureen loved helping others and giving of herself freely. She was especially proud of her children and grandchildren, celebrating their lives with unwavering encouragement and joy. She was active in her church community and treasured the friendships she shared, including her beloved Bunko Babes who brought her laughter and connection. Maureen’s legacy is one of love, safety, and quiet strength. She leaves behind a lasting memory of warmth and grace that will continue to live on through all who knew her. A funeral service will be held at Elkhorn United Methodist Church at 10am, with a luncheon directly following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Nebraska Humane Society or the International Rett Syndrome Foundation. Maureen firmly believed that no dog should ever be without a home, and no obstacle should ever be without its miracle. “Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.”
