Maureen Ada Seidenglanz

Our mom, Maureen, grew up in South Omaha along with her older sister, Billie, and her younger brother, Leonard. She attended Omaha South High School. Mom enjoyed taking care of people. She decided to go to school to become a nurse. She went on to work as a CNA. Her and Dad met at a bar. Surprise, Surprise. They fell in love instantly and spent over 50 years together. Mom had multiple jobs including some time working in nursing homes, then as a receptionist for a chiropractor. However, her main job was raising us kids. Four little monsters. She did her best to keep us busy with dance, bowling, swimming, soccer, basketball, shooting, and football. She rarely missed any competitions or practices. She provided each of us a step in the right direction and did her best to steer us away from being bad. Even though we eventually found our share of trouble, she’d always be there with a helping hand to get us back on track. Mom loved warm weather and sitting poolside. There weren’t many days during the summer that we wouldn’t go to the swimming pool. We had memberships at multiple pools such as Peony Park, Oak Heights, and Rockbrook. Even though she worked, dinner was always ready to be taken out of the stove at 5:30pm. It became so predictable; the neighbor kids knew they could grab a slice of meatloaf or some casserole around that time. Back then summer always included a trip to the Ozarks. It must have been the longest ride for her and Dad! Four maniacs jumping around the back seat had to be tough. Mom really loved spending time with her friends. She enjoyed going to Guitars and Cadillacs to have a couple Bud Lights and line dance. It helped that her only daughter worked there. Mom became a celebrity with the employees, especially the DJ. She had so many friends over the years, it’s tough to name them all. She loved to spend time on Thursdays and Saturdays with her “sorority.” They’d frequent Cappy’s, Sam’s, LaVista Keno, Heron Bay, and even the Max. She loved hanging out with her friends and sharing stories. She’d come home to a house full of our friends and she’d spend time talking with us. She’d ask everyone how they were doing and hoped their families were doing great. Mom would eventually go off to bed and say, “keep it down.” We wouldn’t. It only took a few minutes to get that call on the house phone telling us to turn the music down. We did as she asked but turned it right back up. Somehow, we were surprised by the eventual second call for silence. We don’t know exactly when or how it happened, but Mom eventually found a new hobby. We think everyone knows she was a big fan of the casino. The noise and lights from the slot machines reeled her in. She would go to the casino so much that she would refer to it as her “job.” Secretly winning great jackpots and using her system: “Never stay too long at one machine.” Kevin never listened. It was always a great surprise to get a picture of her and one of her friends she just happened to see over there. You never knew who you’d see in those photos. It was a nice touch by her, even though the photos were taken using a flip phone camera. Her grandkids also kept her busy. She found herself running to those kids’ events including volleyball and football. Mimi loved her grandkids and was proud of the people they’ve turned out to be. Sarah and Kevin started an annual trip to Cancun and Mom would look forward to the fun in the sun. Lounging by the pool and building sandcastles with the kids was her idea of paradise. When she had enough of Mexico, she replaced Cancun with Lake Wa-Con-Da. She’d go to the lake just for some coffee. Sometimes she’d spend the day splitting time between the sun and the shade while chatting with the neighbors and watching the kids ride jet skis and paddle boards. She loved the casino, garage sales, sitting on the porch, holidays, and anniversaries. Mom would send cards for all the holidays and anniversaries. Mother’s and Father’s Day cards were “signed” by our dogs, but we recognized the handwriting. Her sense of humor was fantastic. I’m sure everyone can think of a story or maybe a surprise gag gift you received from her. One time she posted up at a busy intersection with a “Need money for Cancun. Anything helps” sign. Just to get a laugh. She loved her family above all. The past couple of years were tough on her after she lost the love of her life, Bobbo. They were together for a very long time and his passing hit her hard. She tried to stay busy with a great routine of coffee with the girls in the morning, visiting her friends, taking them to appointments, and making sure everyone was doing ok. We know she is with our dad, her parents, and siblings. We will see her again. We will give her a big hug, then enjoy a cold Bud Light while listening to the stories about all the mischief Dad’s been up to. It didn’t matter if you called her Mom, Mimi, Maureen, Spike, or Maureen the Machine, she was a mother to all of us in the extended family known as X Street. We miss you very much. You were one in a billion. We love you lots. Maureen A. Seidenglanz, 76, of Omaha, passed away May 21, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Bob", parents Leonard & Mary Neff, brother Leonard Neff and sister Billie Grace. Maureen is survived by her children: Christopher, Sarah & Kevin Kinsella, Matthew & Teri, and Dayton & Heather Seidenglanz, grandchildren Ryann, Reese, and Cole, and her grand dogs. A celebration of life service will be held Friday, June 7 at St. John Vianney Church, 5801 Oak Hills Drive, Omaha, NE at 11:30 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service. Private interment. Memorials may be made to the family.
