Michael Marvin Daugherty

Michael Marvin Daugherty was born on April 18, 1958 to James Marvin and Bonita (Gatrost) in Wahoo, Nebraska. He grew up in Valley and attended high school in Fremont, Nebraska. As a young kid, Mike had a fascination with farming and mechanics. This interest led him to pursue a long lasting career at Valmont Industries as a machine operator. Those who knew Mike best describe him as selfless, funny, smart, talkative, opinionated, and positive. He was always optimistic and could manage to find the silver lining in any situation. The combination of Mike’s selflessness, nonjudgmental personality, and ability to listen made it easy to come to him with a problem; he was always a willing sound board and gave his honest opinion. His sense of humor could make everyone laugh and easily cheered anyone up when they were feeling down. When Mike wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending time on home improvement projects, or could be found in his garden, hanging out with his family, or playing with his grandchildren. He treasured going for long walks with his kids. Mike was very approachable and kind; he loved talking to people and made friends with everyone he met. He liked to pass the time by watching some of his favorite movies including: Major League, John Wayne, Die Hard and Lethal Weapon, while snacking on popcorn and peanuts, and sipping on coffee. Mike enjoyed a relaxing day watching all kinds of sports; bowling, the Nebraska Huskers, and the Chicago Cubs were some of his favorites. He was very supportive and positive unless he encountered a bad driver, which was his biggest pet peeve. The births of his children and grandchildren were some of Mike’s most cherished memories. He took his role as a father and grandfather very seriously; Jason, Sarah, Fallon, Cole, Reece, Monica, Kelsey, Bryce, Farrah, and Jasper were his world. He was a great, caring dad and grandpa who always kept his family laughing. Mike loved listening to music, and often had rock music, like ACDC, playing throughout the house. Spending time with his family and going out to El Bee’s was another one of Mike’s favorite pasttimes. “It doesn’t cost anything to dream,” was a motto Mike lived by and passed down to his children and grandbabies. Mike’s laughter and kindness will be greatly missed and remembered fondly. Michael passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023. He is survived by his children: Jason, Sarah, Fallon, Cole, Reece, and Monica; grandchildren: Kelsey and Bryce Mitzelfelt, Farrah and Jasper Porter; brother, Larry Daugherty; sisters: Carolyn Kienast, Gloria League, and Jennifer Johnson. Michael is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Susan Mecseji and Sandy Ohlrich. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11am, Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn. A visitation will be held from 9 to 11am prior to the funeral service. INTERMENT: Prospect Hill Cemetery of Elkhorn. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
