Peggy Ann West

Peggy Ann West was born on July 29, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska to Robert and Elsie (Toth) Allen. She grew up in Omaha, Wahoo, Fremont, and Elkhorn, graduating from Elkhorn High School in 1965. After graduating, Peggy married her high school sweetheart, James “Jim” West on December 18, 1965 at the old St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Elkhorn. They were blessed with four children: Carolyn, James, Timothy, and Thomas. They raised their family in Elkhorn until moving to Bennington in 1979. Aside from raising her family, Peggy also enjoyed working as a para educator with Elkhorn Public Schools. In her free time, Peggy loved to crochet, she enjoyed line dancing with Jim, and she was an excellent cook and baker. She specialized in desserts and breads, making beautifully decorated cakes and delicious apple pies. Most importantly, Peggy loved her family and spent as much time with her grandchildren as she could. When their kids were growing up, Peggy and Jim would take them to Peony Park on the weekends to enjoy the rides and would also take them on trips to Worlds of Fun. Later on, they would take road trips with the kids and grandkids, usually to the Black Hills or Rocky Mountains. Peggy loved her family deeply and was kind to everyone. Many people considered her a second mom, and many called her by her nickname, “Granny”. She was very resilient and could be trusted to give you her honest opinion. Jim would sing the lyrics from the Billy Joel song “She’s Always a Woman” - “And she never gives in. She just changes her mind.” to Peggy since it so perfectly described her. Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Allen; parents, Robert & Elsie Allen; son, Thomas West; daughter, Carolyn West; brother-in-law, John West; and sister-in-law, Ann Vermillion. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jim West; sons, Jim (Melissa) West and Tim (Jen) West; grandchildren: Nickolas (Tierney) West, Kaylee (Billy) Mounce, and Ilyssa West; great-grandchildren: Ainsley, Charlotte, Remi, and Emmie; sisters-in-law, Shirley Allen and Diane West; and brothers-in-law, David (Penny) West and Carl Vermillion. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, June 29, 2026 at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn. Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Elkhorn. Memorials may be directed to Peggy's family for later designation.
