Roger Owen Dye

Roger Owen Dye was born on December 6, 1933 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Chester and Edna (Barber) Dye. He grew up in St. Joe where he attended school. As a young boy, Roger began a lifelong love of fishing. He travelled around town on his bicycle and had a pet white rat named Oscar but mostly Roger had a nose for trouble. Roger married Charlene Mires on February 13, 1960 at the pastor’s home in St. Joseph, Missouri and they were blessed with two daughters: Sheila and Tina. Roger and Charlene raised their family in the Valley/Waterloo area. Roger has worked for the Parks Department, a plumbing supply company, as a taxi driver and foreman at an upholstery warehouse. He loved to take his family on fishing and camping trips and had several Master Angler Awards. Roger had several collections, including Jim Beam bottles and coins. He enjoyed playing cards and board games with the family and watching stock car races. Roger was a fun loving, generous man with an ornery streak. He was very social and always willing to help out a friend. Roger was an avid Missouri Tiger football fan and enjoyed a batch of fresh, fried fish, a cold beer and dinner out at Golden Corral, where he could sample many of the offerings. He was always concerned with eating on time and could be heard calling for “Mama” when he needed something from Charlene.Roger passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 25 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Edna and siblings Charles, Don, Margaret and Dennis. Roger is survived by his wife Charlene; children Sheila (Bobby) Thorington of Fremont, NE and Tina Cote of Omaha; granddaughter Amber; grandsons Jonathan and Nathan; 2 great grandchildren; sisters Vera Sproat of St. Joseph, MO and Marie Brandt of Savannah, MO; brother George Dye of Gower, MO.
