Ronald Merle Hansen

Ronald M. Hansen was born in Omaha, Nebraska on June 6, 1961, to Merle and Jeanette (Schuknecht) Hansen. Ron grew up in Elkhorn where he attended grade school and graduated from Cedar Bluffs High School in 1979. Growing up, Ron enjoyed being on the Hansen family farm and farming with his dad and grandpa John, siblings and cousins, riding minibikes, fishing and driving tractors. Ron married Cynthia Hansen in 2000, but she passed away from cancer in 2009. Ron then married Linda Reed on March 4, 2014, in Hawaii. Ron and Linda made their home in Omaha. Ron worked for a number of years with the Omaha Public Power District in various positions. He was primarily a draftsman, working closely with the engineering department drawing maps to show power distribution, circuit information for Quality Control, and even the outage maps used on the websites and local TV stations. Ron was a knowledgeable, talented, creative, kind and adventurous man, who liked learning. He put his creativity to use by painting in watercolors, making a bourbon barrel, and solving complex problems. He taught himself to play guitar and tried his hand at writing songs and poetry. He enjoyed fishing in Minnesota, golfing, bourbon tasting, and vacationing in warm weather locations. He loved his grandma’s bread pudding and going to outdoor events, like music in the park. He was a huge fan of the Huskers and went to numerous games through the years with his dad. He was happy on the golf course or riding his motorcycle, and he was passionate about saving the Sea Turtles in Florida. Ron was compassionate towards his family and friends. He may have been a bit rough around the edges at times, but it came from a good place. He was a genuinely kind person around everyone, and he liked having a good time. He loved hard and cared hard. No matter what life threw at him, he always tried to stay positive. Ron died unexpectedly at his home in Omaha on March 12, 2026, at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 6 days. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents Merle & Jeanette Hansen, 2nd wife Cynthia Hansen, and infant brother and sister Lynn and Linda. Survived by wife Linda of Omaha, sister Susan (Carl) Chaney of Fremont, nieces Amanda Bittner and Melissa Peterson and their families, and his dog, Shelby. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 19 at 11 AM at Reichmuth Funeral Home, Elkhorn with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment Prospect Hill Cemetery, Elkhorn. Memorials to the family for later designation.
