William Randall Wood

William Randall Wood was born on December 12, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri. He grew up with his parents William and Gertie Wood who moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he attended grade school and graduated from Central High School in 1940. As a young boy, William enjoyed cars, and helping his father in their family business. William married Naida Benson on February 10, 1943 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas and to this union two sons were born: William F. Wood and Jack R. Wood. William and Naida raised their family in Tulsa, Oklahoma before moving to Omaha in 1960 and finally to Elkhorn in 1992. After high school, William worked for Spartan Aircraft Company before being called to the service. He served in the United States Army Air Force from May of 1944 to May of 1946. William spent seven months overseas. Upon his return, William went to work for Sunshine Biscuits Company, working the majority of his career in various sales positions. Following his long tenure with Sunshine Biscuits Company, he joined United AG Grocery Company until his retirement. William enjoyed gardening, yard work, golf, playing bridge and eating out. He also was a fan of college football and auto racing. He was active on his SID Board, handy with tools, and enjoyed working on various remodeling projects. He loved his family life with Naida during their 65 years of marriage, and having the companionship of several dachshund pets during his life, especially their last dog named Misty. William passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the Life Care Center of Elkhorn, Nebraska at the age of 89 years and 22 days. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Gertie, wife Naida and son William F. Wood. William is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jack and Pam of Elkhorn; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Nadine Benson of Gretna, Nebraska. Flag Wood, William age 89 of Elkhorn, NE; survived by son and daughter-in-law Jack and Pam of Elkhorn; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; visitation Thursday from noon to 8 PM with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM.
